There is a subscription box for just about anything you are interested in, and oftentimes, they can serve as a promising starter pack while you find your footing in a new hobby.

Typically, subscription boxes run on a monthly basis, with some starting as low as the $20 range and others containing higher quality goods that reach toward the $50 range.

You may find yourself overwhelmed by the number of search results as you scour the internet for your best fit subscription box. But websites like Cratejoy can help you get the ball rolling by offering a catalog of the many box types out there.

However, for some, those options may only scratch the surface. Read on to learn about some specific subscription boxes that may be worth giving a try.

Boxes for creative minds

Let your imagination run wild with a subscription box that is tailored to your creative side. Whether you were born a D.I.Y. fanatic or you finally worked up the courage to pick up a pair of knitting needles, knowing your first attempt may end in frustration and tangled yarn, there are plenty of creativity-based boxes out there.

Adults & Crafts offers just what its name sounds like: crafts specially made for adults. You can subscribe for a monthly craft box that comes with all the tools and instructions you need to make your project, whether that be making a terrarium or customizing a wooden-carved sign. They offer different subscription plans, the cheapest being subscribing to a year-long plan, which is $30 per month in addition to a $25 Amazon gift card. You can stop your subscription at any time and receive a refund. You can even gift someone a subscription.

Indie Stitch provides monthly kits of sewing supplies for all skill levels. You can answer a brief questionnaire that asks about your skill level, what type of machine you own and your typical clothing size. This is so they can specialize your subscription box directly to you and give you the necessary supplies to make a piece of clothing each month. Plans start at a slightly expensive $61, but when you consider the fact that you are getting a complete sewing kit with all the materials you need for a project sent right to your front porch, it may be worth it.

Boxes for the old school rockers

If you’re a music lover that appreciates the art of the music listening experience, there are many subscription boxes out there calling your name. Whether you like to immerse yourself in every genre music has to offer, or you want more tunes to add to expand your collection, there are subscription boxes for just about any music medium, even cassettes.

ChalkPit Cassette Club, offers a subscription service that sends you new tunes in an old school format. Their “Next Wave Cassette Magazine” monthly subscription is about $10 to receive a magazine featuring handpicked rising artists and their music in the form of a cassette. Their service is based overseas in the U.K., but they do ship internationally.

If you’re looking for another old school way to enhance your music experience, vinyl records are another commendable choice. Though I warn you to err with caution, as record collecting can be an easily addicting hobby, and an expensive one at that.

Take it from Nicole Estephan, who’s studying health services management with a focus in marketing at the University of Minnesota. She started collecting vinyl records about two or three years ago after her brothers gave her a couple for Christmas. She was hooked and kept buying more and more. She now runs her TikTok account @nicole.este where she shares her love of music with her nearly 2,500 followers.

“I started getting into the music niche because it’s something I like and I wanted to find more people who might like the same music as me,” Estephan said.

She subscribes to Vnyl, a subscription service that sends you new records every month, curated to your personal taste. Estephan finds the service is a fun way to expand her collection.

“It helps me find new music I might have just not picked out in the first place,” she said.

Membership plans start at $22 a month, which will get you one record. A step up from that is the Trio plan, this is $39 a month for three records. The Triple Triple plan is a three month subscription for $37, where you will be sent nine records. Lastly, the #BFF plan is a one year subscription for $35 a month, which will get you a whopping 36 records.

Boxes for a cozy night in

Subscription boxes can be a perfect project for a night in, as they can be a productive, relaxing activity.

Destiny Burns is a 27 year old from Ohio who has a passion for reading and book collecting. She created her “BookTok” account called @destinyreadsbooks where she now has 21.3K followers. She created her account to find a community of other readers.

“I wanted to make friends with people who also read, and I also wanted to read more books because I was struggling to find books to read,” Burns said.

On her TikTok she has a segment where she tries different book box subscriptions and reviews them. She understands how many different options there are and wants to help her followers find the best fit for them. She suggests someone looking for a young adult book should look at Illumicrate or FairyLoot. Illumicrate subscriptions start at just over $20 and FairyLoot YA subscriptions start at $25.90. But subscription services like Dark and Disturbed and Mystic Box, Burns’ personal favorite, may appeal to those looking for darker, more adult-like titles.

Another type of subscription box that could pair very well with a book box, is a self-care box. TheraBox provides self-care items in their monthly subscription boxes based on different themes. Subscribers can expect items that promote happiness through self-care rituals, relaxation from their stress-reducing self care products and inspiration for the mind, body and soul. Boxes contain some full-sized products valued at $200+. Their monthly subscriptions start as low as $39.99.

Boxes for those who can’t make up their mind

If all else fails, and you really can’t decide, subscription boxes like Bespoke Post offer boxes with a variety of lifestyle items to choose from, like camping essentials, a cocktail-making kit and even products to up your morning skincare routine. They start as low as $49 and you have the ability to preview your box and customize colors and styles, or swap to a different box completely.

Trying a subscription box can be a great way to become more skilled in your favorite hobby or take up a completely new one. The comfort of having a box with everything you need to immerse yourself in a leisurely activity delivered right to your door makes it easier than ever to find your next favorite thing.
