Dates are necessary for any relationship to thrive. From having dinner on a video call with a friend to a romantic dinner in a restaurant, dates bring people together or can even be a good way to treat yourself. But, sometimes it’s not easy to come up with date ideas within a reasonable budget or location. Here is a list of places to go and things to do in New York City:
1. The Prospect Park Zoo

Going to the zoo may not be the most obvious place for a date. However, Prospect Park Zoo located in Brooklyn is a great place to spend quality time and get to know someone while taking pictures and reading interesting facts about exotic animals. Whether you are a reptile lover or amphibian specialist, Prospect Park is the place for you. Although the small zoo doesn’t have the bigger animals like lions or tigers, the animals they do have are in abundance. From peacocks that roam around freely or the petting zoo, Prospect Park Zoo is a cheap and convenient way to spend a few hours with the people you love.
2. DUMBO

DUMBO means Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass. This location is a nice way to plan a picnic date or a solo night under the stars in front of the river. Not only is this a free location open to the public, there is food available to purchase at various restaurants in the area. The view at DUMBO is unique and shows you a different side of NYC. The passing boats and view of the bridge at DUMBO set the stage for an amazing date. From reading to laying in the grass, DUMBO is a great place to relax and let nature take over for a date night with friends and family or even a solo outing.
3. Ellis Island Museum and the Statue of Liberty

Museums are all over New York City. From the Madame Tussauds to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, museums are a great way to discuss with someone or educate yourself on something you never knew about. Ellis Island Museum has many artifacts and showcases the history of immigrants in the United States of America. If you’re looking for a more quiet date, this is the place for you. However, going to the Statue of Liberty is a bit different. Typically, there are a lot of tourists who take pictures in front of the statue. You also need tickets in order to access certain parts of the statue. The boat ride to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty gives you an opportunity to see two locations at the same time and make a day out of it.
4. Going To the Edge

The Edge is a scenic venue that overlooks New York City at night or in the daytime. This location gives you a 360 degree view of the city and allows you to look down at the world below you through a glass floor from up above. The Edge is a beautiful place with an extensive security system, but if you have a fear of heights, this may not be the best location for you. At this location you aren’t allowed to have a big bag or purse. However, The Edge does have different packages for those who can legally drink or for those who would like to get higher and scale the building. Whether it’s for a photo-op or a romantic night using an annual pass, The Edge is a one of a kind venue that stands out for any occasion.
Date nights are a universal concept that allows anyone to go out or stay in and nurture their relationships.. Whether you are treating yourself to a night on the town or a day at the petting zoo, dates are essential to catering to yourself and the people around you.
