“Brat” is the name of the new Charlie XCX pop, electronic dance music album released June 7, 2024. Hits such as Club Classics to 365, the album takes you on a journey through Charlie’s mind and her lifestyle, which she refers to as “brat.”
Brat summer is essentially having the same vibe Charlie gives off in the new album; messy but cool, sweating but glowing, party girl that has her life together. Brat summer, in Charlie’s case, involves partying, drinking, making music and just overall being the “it” girl.
The album gained a lot of recognition from Charlie’s fans, but exploded on social media when Charlie XCX tweeted “kamala IS brat.” The tweet was posted after President Joe Biden dropped out of the election and Kamala Harris stepped in as the democratic nominee. Charlie posting this is essentially endorsing Harris and the Democratic Party. This tweet had 56 million views, 42.4 thousand replies, 13.7 thousand quotes, 334.1 thousand likes and 8,682 bookmarks. After that Kamala Hq social media accounts rebranded with the color of the album.
This post brought the essence of being Brat to every generation. Not only was Gen Z streaming the album on music platforms and TikTok, but their parents and grandparents were hearing about the album on the news.
Another way you may have heard about the Brat album is through the Apple dance on TikTok. Content creator Kelley Heyer created the dance in June. The sound on Tiktok now has over 1.7 million posts of others replicating the dance. Celebrities such as Glen Powell, Daisy Edgar-Jones, Stephan Colbert, Jack Laugher, Troy Sivan and even Charlie herself have all participated in the trend.
Now that the leaves are changing and the air is getting crisp, you may be wondering, what comes after Brat Summer?
When you search on TikTok, “what comes after summer?” hundreds of different ideas pop up. Some content creators say it’s “Demure Fall,” meaning you are being peaceful and mindful. Others say it’s “sad girl fall” or “recharging fall” after having too much fun during Brat Summer.
Basically, there is no correct answer. The most common of all the answers is “Brat Autumn,” and I agree.
Charlie XCX just started the Sweat Tour with Shygirl and Troy Sivan. The tour has been a huge success and is still taking the internet by storm. To keep the excitement, Charlie has been teasing a remix album that was released Friday, October 11, 2024. Posts saying “Brat, it’s the same, but it’s not” have been making fans feel eager to hear the new versions of songs they have grown to appreciate.
The Brat remix album features a new guest on each track. To get fans talking, she created brat signs around the world with another artist’s name on it, in their hometowns. Singers such as Ariana Grande, Tinashe, Bon Iver, The 1975 and Shygirl will all be featured on the album. Based on past success, fans can guess that this album will get just as much traction as the original.
