APN’S Support Systems
I have been so lucky to be surrounded by so many people who care about me and support me in my decisions. My biggest support system would have to be my parents. My Mom and Dad are two of the most involved people in my life. They know my schedule, where I am most of the time, my education and grades, my friends and are involved in any major decision I have had to make. They even support me when I do the wrong thing. They are two of the most understanding people I have ever met and have taught me to be the same. Growing up with them as my parents, I always felt safe and heard. It was okay to make mistakes and to fail as long as you recognize what you learned and how it made me stronger. They encouraged me to be the best I could be and put my all into everything I signed up for. I couldn’t imagine not having them to guide me through my adult years and am so grateful for the relationship we have.

My support system is primarily my family, particularly my husband. We have been through a lot, and when things in my life are difficult, I know he is someone I can count on to support me, whatever that might mean. We both learned quite some time ago, that when it comes to our struggles, everyone seems to disappear, and we only have each other. That may be unfortunate, but honestly some people don’t even have the support of a spouse, so I know I am actually lucky to have someone so reliable in my life. My other support systems are my four cats and one dog. They don’t even know it, but when I walk in the door after a long day and my dog is jumping and wagging her tail, and my cats all run to the door to greet me, they let me know how happy they are to see me.

I have found myself at times struggling, needing help from family and friends to help encourage me get back onto my feet. I thank each and every person in my life and appreciate them no matter who they are to me. But I have to say, my dog is my backbone. For what’s about to be 11 years, my dog has always been there when I need to feel better. She is there when I need a hug and never judges anything. I have never been so glad that my dog is my dog and I can rely on her.
