The art of palmistry has been around for many years, creating controversy over it’s reliability. Palmistry is commonly practiced in Eurasia. Palmistry practitioners are often called palmists, chirologists, palm readers or palm analysts. Astro-palmistry combines astrology and palmistry to derive horoscopes and divination.
I attended a palm reader for the first time on April 28. I came across the reader at a psychic and holistic fair. I’ve always been interested in all things spiritual so my curiosity was piqued by the opportunity.

For confidentiality reasons, I will not disclose the palm reader’s name. Instead, he will be referred to as Zoltar.
It is important to note that in New York State, “fortune-telling” is a class B misdemeanor. The law states: “A person is guilty of fortune telling when, for a fee or compensation which he directly or indirectly solicits or receives, he claims or pretends to tell fortunes, or holds himself out as being able, by claimed or pretended use of occult powers, to answer questions or give advice on personal matters or to exorcise, influence or affect evil spirits or curses; except that this section does not apply to a person who engages in the aforedescribed conduct as part of a show or exhibition solely for the purpose of entertainment or amusement.”
Because of this, all people claiming to provide clairvoyant services must also provide a disclaimer for said services. Most have a disclaimer in their brochure and on their website. Zoltar’s disclaimer reads: “The information contained on the website and during personal readings in any form is for entertainment purpose only. [Zoltar] assumes no responsibility for errors or omissions in the contents of the service. In New York State, divination is classified as entertainment.”
Zoltar identified himself as an “international astro-palmist” and a “destiny reader”. His work involves reviewing your health, profession, wealth, relationships, family and children with his combined psychic and astro-palmist abilities.
When Zoltar was a young boy, a teacher looked at his palm. The teacher informed him that he had a special talent to discover hidden knowledge.
“You have a gift and you must nurture it. You must study the gift and learn how to use it to help others,” the teacher told a young Zoltar. The teacher then taught Zoltar how to read palms.
An interesting moment in my reading was when Zoltar relayed a similar message to me.
After learning to read palms and practicing on his family, Zoltar went to study with famous palm readers. “I discovered they knew little, even though they were well-known,” he mentioned.
Eventually, Zoltar found a reader whose talent impressed him. He studied with this reader for a year. He also traveled to many countries to learn as much as he could about the craft.
“I read hundreds of books on the subject, but there was no book with a complete knowledge,” Zoltar said. “You must have the talent first.”
Zoltar believes having a palm reader is as important as having a doctor.
“It helps you decide what are the best steps to take at any given time in your life,” he writes in his brochure.
“I can interpret your past life experiences and future possibilities with my psychic abilities,” Zoltar’s brochure claims.
