“From the Fires” is the second EP by American hard rock band Greta Van Fleet released on Nov. 10, 2017. The album consists of eight retro-sounding songs that keep you glued to the speakers the moment you press play.
The composition of this album is roughly the same throughout the whole listening experience. The sound that this album produces encapsulates ‘60s Led Zeppelin’s vocal styles with a healthy injection of hard blues. All eight songs are a vintage throwback that catapults the listener into a genre of music that tastes like a sweet piece of pie.
The beginning track “Safari Song” is a masterful twist of noise that starts listeners off with a big bite of what the band is most known for. Originally released on the band’s first EP, “Black Smoke Rising”, “Safari Song” was re-released on the “From the Fires” EP that topped the Billboard Mainstream Rock Charts in 2018.
“Highway Tune” is the second most popular song on the album that was also originally released on the bands first EP. “Highway Tune” topped the charts in 2017 when it was originally released, and it topped it again in 2018 on the “From The Fires” EP.
This album is a fantastic gateway to a band that has taken the rock scene by the skin of their teeth, proving that old-school sounds and composition are not dead. Cameron Armstong is a huge rock music fan and he loved this album after he listened to it.
“It has a ‘70s feeling to it and I think it sounds very original. The chorus and the melodies fit the baseline very well. My favorite song on the whole album is ‘Safari Song’,” Armstrong said.
“From the Fires” is a fantastic album that should not be overlooked. The band is young and full of life, and this album proves that they are not intending to slow down. The album invokes vibes that only one can get during the summertime. The tones are warm, the riffs are strong and the vocals by Josh Kizska are second to none. Greta Van Fleet produced some of their best songs yet on this album.
If you liked From the Fires, their new album “Battle at Garden’s Gate”, is set to be releasedApril 16, 2021.
“From The Fires” won the Grammy Award for best rock album at the 61st Grammy Awards.
