As college students are preparing for their careers, gaining the knowledge and professional skills they need to succeed, they typically have little to no free time. As the workload progresses in a semester, students might get tired, burned out or may just need a break to refresh their minds and body.
Keep reading to see what college students from around the world, all between the ages of 18 to 25, have to say about taking breaks. Hopefully in the process of reading you may be inspired to take a break as well.
Question: Why do college students need breaks?
Desire Ologbosere: “It’s to help them relax after strenuous hours in school, which prevents them from having time for themselves. This goes with the saying, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.”
Jenesky Baez: “We deserve breaks for our mental health sanity because college is stressful, and students deserve to have some time off.”

Amina Ali: “College students need breaks because, at that particular point in life, there are many responsibilities and many expectations, from getting your grades on track and planning ahead on what you want for the future. In that case, everything can be very overwhelming and depressing at times.
So, a break is necessary.”
Yewoinhareg Kebede: “If we don’t get breaks then we will get burnt out which will impact our academics and personal lives as well.”

Rory Fisher: “If you work all the time it is very damaging to your mental and physical health. You need time to just relax and take a break to recharge and that leads to better work results.”

Iman Ahmad: “To relax and freshen up their minds because if we study for a longer period consecutively, we might end up getting stressed, and we will not be able to grasp and focus on information that is needed properly.”
Heather Yang: “It’s nice to have time off to spend on ourselves. Just having time with no work is like a mental break from all the stress. Not only that, but we could use that time to have fun, relax, reflect, make new memories and so much more. It’s just nice to have that time to ourselves not worrying about school. We also have that time to go see family, or visit the place we call home. I wasn’t able to go back this fall break, but I can’t wait to go back to NYC. I missed it so much, and having that time to go back is really meaningful. Even if it’s still staying on campus, that free time allows us to do so many more things.”
