It’s a dark night. Perhaps you’d like to watch a scary movie, but unfortunately you’ve seen the best horror movies Netflix or Hulu has to offer.

Why not listen to a scary story podcast? Most people may see a podcast as a more journalistic artform. However, there are many podcasts that focus on short-form fiction. Here are five scary story podcasts that are guaranteed to raise the hair on the back of your neck.

The NoSleep Podcast has an impressive production value and will truly make your skin crawl. Different voice actors are featured in each tale and a new episode appears every two weeks.The podcast features original music from Brandon Boone, who provides host David Cummings an eerie and mysterious atmosphere. Cummings also gives aspiring writers a chance to have their work featured on the show. The NoSleep Podcast has a submission page on their website for original horror fiction.

The Dark Verse has a 4.5-star rating on the Podcasts app.

The Dark Verse includes classic horror stories, as well as stories of the occult and metaphysical horror. Prepare to discover hidden universes and cosmic beings. The podcast is written and narrated by M. Amanuensis Sharkchild. Many of the tales are influenced by horror and science fiction author H.P. Lovecraft. This podcast is also an award-winning hardcover book series.

Lore is hosted by Aaron Mahnke and features stories rooted in folklore and truth. Each tale is steeped in history with the presence of the paranormal and the macabre. The podcast features original music by Chad Lawson, which is available on iTunes and Spotify.  As written on their website, “Sometimes the truth is more frightening than fiction.”
